I firmly believe that mental wellbeing is at the heart of everything that we do. When we have mental ill health or are suffering from stress, it impacts every aspect of our life, family, workplace, our enjoyment of social activities…the list is all encompassing. My own experience of mental ill health and that of friends and family members, has highlighted why it is so important that we provide mental health support within workplaces. Mental ill health can be so isolating. It creates barriers to the very people we ought to be reaching out to, for support. Fear of stigma, or shame surrounding mental health ill health, creates that barrier and deepens the sense of isolation and often exacerbates the condition itself.
It is because of my own experience and belief that mental wellbeing is such a fundamental in our life, that Scott and I have created Come Alive UK to break down some of those barriers within workplaces and provide that crucial support. Throughout my career I have had an interest in mental wellbeing and have trained in counselling, coaching and am a qualified family mediator through Relationships Scotland. I also provide workplace mediation to companies and organisations, where staff need support to have an effective working relationship. I bring my unique blend of skills and experiences to Come Alive UK, so that effective and high-quality interventions are at the heart of all the services that we offer. Simply we seek to transform the culture around mental health within companies and organisations.
Skills and Experience
My personal passion is in relation to mental health at work, and since accepting my own wellbeing challenges, I feel I am on a mission to ensure that positive mental health is promoted and supported in every workplace in the UK. I am a big believer that with the right guidance, all organisations can be both a great place to work for staff, as well as being Commercially successful. In fact, as evidence clearly suggests, the two go hand in hand!
As the Founder of NewbyCore Consulting, I am proud that we have delivered Accredited First Aid for Mental Health training to over 250 people as well as Mental Health Awareness sessions to hundreds more.
Since sharing my own story of Mental Health in 2018, I have invested my time and energy in using my skills and experience to support other organisations to better support their employees. It is this shared passion that led to Catriona & Myself setting up Come Alive UK. With our shared passion & complimentary skills, we believe there is no-one better to be a People Partner for organisations that want to truly invest in their people.
I am a huge advocate for the importance of First Aid for Mental Health – however it is just the beginning. That is why we have formed Come Alive UK, to partner with organisations to help ensure the wellbeing of employees is part of the culture. With a ‘prevention is better than cure’ mindset, we can implement some practical and cultural changes that will make every organisation a great place to work…and at the same time, maybe help in making the world a slightly better place.
